Same Husband – 2012
For Same Husband Nicole Morris divided the gallery space into two parts – constructing a liminal space of sculptural and filmic components, aiming to disrupt any distinction between object and encounter, viewer and viewed. As we return to one element from another, we step in and out of our role as active participant and passive spectator. Through the exhibition Morris’ use of construction was key – her constructing of both a series of actions, of a performance, the layering of film and objects – to create a whole and controlled environment. Moving through Same Husband, objects and architectural features operate as both obstacles and navigational tools for each individual’s journey.
